A new twist is in store for a holiday musical favorite.

Some of the area’s most popular performers join in on Peninsula College’s annual Jingle Jazz concert set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the college’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

“There’s always great singing, but this year is different,” college vocal jazz instructor Elaine Gardner-Morales said — referring to a lineup of guest performers Sarah Shea, Dawn Martin and Buck Ellard who will join PC’s vocal jazz students on stage.

The idea to pair local talent with the college crew began when the guest performers conducted workshops with students during summer classes, Gardner-Morales said.

“Sarah Shea’s confidence in jazz scat and Buck Ellard’s authentic country approach were great song styling experiences for students, and they learned how to deliver an engaging and fun performance from Dawn Martin,” she said.

”These are brilliant performers, and we are so fortunate that they have shared their talents with our students.”

She added, “The practice sessions have been amazing. I’ve been doing this for a long time, and this is really great singing!”

Each holiday season, Jingle Jazz offers a mix of instrumental, ensemble and solo performances and for the first time, will feature students and guests singing together.

Shea will sing “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” with Hayley Corbett.

Martin and Alondra Franco pair, along with the whole group, for “Something’s Gotta Hold On Me.”

Ellard and Brandy Wilkinson sing “Remind Me” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”

The Vocal Jazz ensemble also includes Chris Burt, Robbin Eaves, Stephen Kaufmann, Ed Lester, Patrick Singhose, Clare Wegener and Allison Winters, who will sing a variety of tunes, including “Hit That Jive Jack” and “You Are There.”

A stellar lineup of local musicians will back the group, including Al Harris on piano, Terry Smith on drums, Chuck Easton on guitar and Ted Enderle on bass.

Jingle Jazz is presented by The Olympus Group at D.A. Davidson and Sound Community Bank, and with help from the Peninsula College Foundation, supports students and the Vocal Jazz program at Peninsula College.

PC’s Vocal Jazz singers across the area at various locations and community events such as Sherwood Village in Sequim and the tree lighting ceremony in Port Angeles.
