Help needed to honor veterans

National Wreaths Across America Day — set for Saturday, Dec. 17 — will see more than 2,300 remembrance wreaths placed on grave markers at two North Olympic peninsula cemeteries this year.

A public ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Mount Angeles Memorial Park, 45 Monroe Road.The event includes a flag line, U.S. Navy jet fly-over, riderless horse salute, guest speaker (Cmdr. Robert Al Ralston) and more. A second ceremony is set for 2 p.m. at Forks Cemetery, 1101 Calawah Way, presented by American legion Post 106.

Volunteers are needed to help place wreaths at six local cemeteries on Dec. 17:

• Blue Mountain Cemetery, 1986 Blue Mountain Road, at 9 a.m.

• Dungeness Cemetery, 2153 Lotzgesell Road, at 11 a.m.

• Mount Angeles Memorial park at 11:30 a.m.

• Gardiner Community Cemetery, 137 Gardiner Cemetery Road, at 1 p.m.

• Sequim View Cemetery, 1505 Sequim-Dungeness Way, at 1 p.m., and Forks Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Families are welcome at all events and encouraged to participate, said organizers with the Michael Trebert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
