KSQM’s spring fund drive tops $35K

Volunteers and staff with KSQM 91.5 FM are calling the nonprofit community radio station’s 2023 Spring Fund Drive a big success after bringing in more than $35,000 in donations — with more coming in.

The on-air drive started June 5.

“We are all thrilled by the response of local listeners to 91.5 here on the North Olympic Peninsula, as well as from listeners across the nation, tuned in through the internet,” said Tama Bankston, KSQM’s director of administration.

“This year we added a fun and unusual event known as ‘Jail ‘n’ Bail,’ and this is where select members of the local business community were cited for good behaviour, charged with bogus violations and put in the ‘KSQM Klink’ in order to arrange for their ‘bail’.”

Bankston noted that more than 15 “jailbirds” participated in the fund drive, including Joe D’Amico of Security Services Northwest, Marie Dickinson of Mariner Café, Sequim Noon Rotary president Anna Richardson and past Grand Pioneer Bob Clark of the Sequim Prairie Grange.

Others incarcerated include Master Gardeners Beverly Dawson and Cathy Wagner, Mel Marshall of Welfare for Animals Guild, Christina Parker of Lambert Consulting, and David Herbelin of Olympic Theatre Arts, as well as singer Tess Teel and country music star Buck Ellard. Mass detentions were arranged for BNI Rainshadow Referrals and Skwim Toastmasters.

Also jailed were KSQM announcers Sassy Susan and Uncle Al.
