LA couple searches for hidden talent in Sequim

It’s no secret that the North Olympic Peninsula is full of interesting people.

The third Sunday in October, gifted individuals from all over will gather at 7 Cedars Casino to show off their talents during the 2010 Talent Search USA.

Hosted by Jan Rickey and Dan Stenado – founders of Int’l Entertainment & Productions, a multi-faceted corporation specializing in the production and promotion of film, music and live events – the event will feature multiple bands, musicians and performers including Sequim’s very own Craig Buhler.

Rickey and Stenado, originally from California, live on Marrowstone Island near Port Townsend but have dreams of starting a stunt and film school, possibly in Sequim.

"We think the Olympic Peninsula is so gorgeous and we’d like to shoot two or three films here a year to generate revenue," Rickey said.

"This isn’t something we thought up overnight, it’s something we’ve been working on since the ’80s."

Until then, the couple will continue offering acting workshops, stunt demonstrations and talent searches.

"The purpose is to take the talent from the Northwest and give them the exposure they need," Rickey said.

In addition to the talent search, Stenado will host a stunt seminar at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. Participation includes lunch and costs $45. It’s not too late to register.

Stenado is president of Int’l Pro Sports and the Pacific Northwest Stuntmen’s and Women’s Association. He first found fame as a professional boxer and then as a trainer. He’s coached 10 world champion professional boxers and continues to teach and train amateur coaches using the Stenado method.

On the big screen, Stenado has a long résumé of films he’s acted and performed stunts in, including "A Star is Born" with Kris Kristofferson.
