The Sequim Lavender Festival was one of more than 30 festivals and events in Washington honored with a 2010 Summit Award from Washington Festivals & Events Association.

The honors are for achievements in marketing and community service associated with events held in 2009.

The awards ceremony was at the Northwest Festivals and Events Conference on March 9 at the Seaside, Ore., Convention Center.

The Sequim Lavender Festival won the Gold Award in its budget category for the festival program, (produced by the Sequim Gazette), festival promotional brochure, souvenir button and T-shirt. The festival also won Bronze Awards for the festival poster.

The Summit Awards

competition recognizes those who continually improve the quality and image of festivals and special events in the eyes of the community and media.

"The number of entries and the range in the size and types of events and communities represented show the strength of the festival and event industry throughout the state," said WFEA president Bruce Skinner.

"Festivals reflect the special characteristics of communities and invite residents and visitors alike to join together in celebration."
