Master Gardener Larry Lang explains how to build gardens by layering composting materials to create nutrient-rich soil at noon Thursday, July 28, in the county commissioners meeting room of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Attendees may bring a lunch.

Lasagna gardening or sheet mulching is less labor-intensive than traditional gardening. It does not require digging and the soil is crumbly, easy to work and retains moisture.

Lang and his wife, Nancy, have been using this method for vegetable and flower beds for three years. He will explain how they converted part of the lawn in their front yard into a vegetable garden plot using compost and other inexpensive and readily available materials. He will share his experience for building, planting and maintaining lasagna beds.

This presentation is part of the “Green Thumbs Garden Tips” brown bag series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners on the second and fourth Thursday of every month in Port Angeles.
