Learn about Sequim-friendly plants at Aug. 28 ‘Work to Learn’ party

The Sequim Botanical Garden Society invites the community to learn about Sequim-friendly plants for arid summers at the group’s next “Work to Learn” party, slated for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Terrace Garden just north of Carrie Blake Community Park, near the James Center bandshell at 350 N. Blake Ave.

Led by Elaine Webber, the presentation will cover the varieties of plants that thrive in arid summers, require little water and are easy to grow. It will include information on lavender, sedum and plants native to Sequim. Webber share her experience on how to plan a yard and landscaping that will thrive instead of perish during periods of drought.

The society’s “Work to Learn” parties, organizers say, are opportunities for novice and seasoned gardeners to volunteer together “to cultivate what makes our community exceptional and flourishing.”

Participants don’t have to get in the dirt to learn, but those who want to help are asked to bring gardening gloves, tools, sunscreen and hats.

On Aug. 28, look for yellow signs to find parking the City of Sequim’s water reuse entrance on North Blake Avenue and East Fir Street.

The Sequim Botanical Garden Society (SBGS) is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, that provides education and a visual demonstration of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices.
