The New Dungeness Light Station Association hosts its annual general meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.

Group members invite the public to catch up on what’s new this past year at the New Dungeness Light Station and learn how to become involved with Sequim’s iconic lighthouse.

In addition the keynote speaker, Joanne Pickering will share the story of how she and her husband, Earl, spent four years on Tatoosh Island. When Earl landed his first job with the U.S. Weather Bureau, they soon discovered that life on the tiny, isolated island brought horrific storms, dangerous waters and rugged terrain. It was life before computers, Dopler radars, satellites and cellphones. Access to the island was in a basket lowered and raised from a Coast Guard boat up or down a 90-foot cliff.

The meeting includes refreshments, door prizes, a silent auction and the opportunity to enter a drawing for a one-week stay for two as keepers at the New Dungeness Light Station. A one-year family membership also is part of the winning prize.
