Live with Lunch hosts orchestra

Music Live with Lunch presents the Port Angeles High School Chamber Orchestra in concert at noon Tuesday, Nov. 16, in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim, with a hot lunch to follow at 12:30 p.m. The cost for both is $10.

This select group has won many local and national competitions. It has performed at Carnegie Hall several times and has been the first and only Washington orchestra to perform at the annual Midwest Conference in Chicago in the 60-year history of the conference.

The Port Angeles High School music department ranks highly among Washington high schools and the symphonic orchestra (in which most of these students play) recently was selected as one of four orchestras to perform at the gala evening performance of the Mercer Island Orchestra Festival.

Conductor Ron Jones has been director of orchestras at Port Angeles High School since 1975. He has been selected as outstanding Public School Music Teacher of the Year by the Washington Chapter of American String Teachers Association with the National School Orchestra Association. In 2006, he was inducted into the Washington Music Educators Association Hall of Fame.
