The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley celebrates petite pieces of artwork in September with a new open-entry exhibit sponsored by the Sequim Humanities and Arts Alliance.

“Small Art with Big Dreams – Artist Trading Cards” features the original, miniature-sized works of numerous local artists and runs Sept. 4-28 at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim.

An artist reception featuring the music of clarinet quartet Toot Sweet is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, during the blue color-themed First Friday Art Walk.

Created and traded as a way to appreciate other artists’ talents, artist trading cards are original works of art sized 2½ inches by 3½ inches and viewable on both sides.

“Artist trading cards are a great medium for everyone to express themselves,” Jean Wyatt, exhibiting artist and SHAA board member, said. “They allow for a person’s creativity, experimentation of new techniques, and creation of art on a small scale. There doesn’t have to be a huge commitment to make a large piece.”

A nonprofit organization established in 2008, Sequim Humanities and Arts Alliance creates connections between different arts groups to develop cohesive projects and events to benefit the Sequim-Dungeness Valley area. Visit www.SequimArtsAlliance.org.

Also on display at the MAC Exhibit Center in September is “Faces and Masks,” a solo exhibition of nearly 70 acrylic portraits of women and several 3-D mixed media sculptures by Port Angeles artist Pamela Hastings.
