MAC hosts evening for photography ‘insiders’

For the Sequim Gazette

Registration is now open for an evening photographic discussion held in conjunction with the “Photography Collectors Show” currently on exhibit at the Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.

The event, titled “Photography Insiders & Their Stories,” is at 5 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim.

The five contributors whose 50 collected works are on display – DJ Bassett, Conn O’Neil, Robert Schlechter, Ernst Ulrich-Schafer and Charlotte Watts – will be on hand to answer questions and provide first-hand information about the images, photographers and photographic techniques featured in the exhibit. Such techniques include carbon printing, hand-coloring, platinum printing, albumen printing, digital printing, photogravure, Polaroid transfer and gelatin silver printing.

The event is limited to 25 people and registration is taken in-person on a first-come, first-served basis at the MAC Exhibit Center. The fee of $20 per person supports continued MAC programming and payment is due at the time of registration. The MAC Exhibit Center is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

“This is a unique opportunity, since all of the contributors have either worked with or personally known many of the photographers whose work is in the show,” said Schlechter, who also organized the exhibit. “So, they will not only be able to speak about the photographs themselves but also the techniques used by the photographers.”

The “Photography Collectors Show,” featuring the works of 45 world-renowned photographers, is on display through April 26 at the MAC Exhibit Center. Visit or call 683-8110 for more information about the exhibit.
