Alexis Cawyer, a medical assistant-certified staffer at Olympic Medical Physicians Primary Care, recently was awarded the OMC BEE (Being Excellent Every Day) Award.
The award, established by Olympic Medical Center (OMC) and a companion to the DAISY Award given to nursing staff, recognizes non-nurse staff members, both clinical and non-clinical, who exceed expectation in service excellence every day.
“We are so proud grateful to have Alexis on our Primary Care team,” primary care clinic manager Lacey Gentry said.
“She is a true gem. Her kindness, positivity, and compassion are second to none. She exemplifies our OMC values.”
Cawyer was recognized for her above-and-beyond approach to patient care, consistently going the extra mile for her primary care patients.
A colleague nominated Cawyer for the BEE award, writing:
“Alexis is a primary care medical assistant and the kindest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She treats everyone with the utmost respect and patience, no matter the circumstance. I recently witnessed Alexis’s encounter with an elderly patient who came into the office alone to see a provider. The patient was very confused about the treatments the provider was recommending and the next steps in her treatment. Alexis took the time to make sure the entire conversation was written in the patient’s after-visit summary, including all instructions, addresses, and phone numbers. She then made sure that her patient got to her car okay. Alexis also called her later in the afternoon to check on her and make sure the patient was okay. She also called the patient’s designated care partner to ensure they knew the plan and the provider’s concerns during the visit. These examples of the extra care that Alexis gives are just a snapshot of the type of care and attention that she provides daily to our patients and her co-workers. She is the definition of compassion. It is an honor to work with her every day.”
Olympic Medical staff may be nominated for the BEE Award by patients, families and colleagues. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him on “Being Excellent Every Day.”
The certificate reads: “With deep appreciation for being excellent at what you do, for going above and beyond and making a difference for those around you every day.”
Honorees also receive a BEE Award pin and a gift bag containing a jar of local honey.
A cross-functional committee of healthcare workers review the nominations and select the final nominee.
