Milestone: First Christian Church donates to U.S. Coast Guard

At its monthly board meeting on Jan. 20, the board of First Christian Church of Port Angeles (Disciples of Christ) unanimously agreed to donate $2,500 to the Chief Petty Officer’s Association at the U. S. Coast Guard Port Angeles Air Station, with the request that the funds be given to 100 enlisted personnel in the form of $25 gift cards (generic VISA, Safeway, etc.) to assist them during the federal government shutdown.

Later, the church took a special offering which brought the total donation to $2,850.

“As a Christian congregation, in addition to praying for all those affected by the interim loss of paychecks, the church wanted to take specific action which would directly improve the lives of the Coast Guardsmen and their families who were most affected by the shutdown,” church representatives said.
