Soroptimist International of Sequim announced last week the recipient of the organization’s Continuing Education Award to DeAnna Kubas.

Kubas holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and returned to school to become registered nurse through the Peninsula College nursing program.

This journey was started years ago when her mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. The experience of caring for her mother and working closely with hospice laid the groundwork for her to return to school and become a hospice registered nurse, Soroptimist representatives said.

Kubas will soon start a preceptorship with Assured Hospice as part of her education.
