Milestone: Local group gives holiday boost to Healthy Families

For 26 years, the Sequim Center for Spiritual Living has been donating holiday gifts to Healthy Families of Clallam County.

For a small spiritual group that’s now meeting only on zoom, the congregation has exhibited enormous generosity,” says Reverend Lynn Osborne, the founder of the local chapter.

Last year was a challenge, center members say, as it was the first year meeting only on zoom. For the last 24 years, the group has met on Sundays at Pioneer Memorial Park.

The Holiday Family program is headed up by Beverly Hoffman, who organizes it every year.

Families in need from all parts of Clallam County are visited by the “Secret Santa” each year. A family in need is assigned to an organization or an individual who volunteers to participate. The family is often is a single parent with children that without help may not have anything to give to their children. The family gets to fill out a “wish list” for each person, with their first name and age.

Then, the elves get busy shopping and wrapping gifts for them. And usually the gifts exceed the items on the wish list, and include all kinds of treats.

This program allows individuals to be anonymous givers and participate in the joy of giving, organizers say.
