Milestone: OMC labs receive accreditation from College of American Pathologists

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has again awarded accreditation to Olympic Medical Center Laboratories in Sequim and Port Angeles based on results of a recent on-site inspections as part of the college’s accreditation programs.

Alfonso V. Masangkay, the facility’s director, was congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. More than 8,000 facilities are CAP-accredited worldwide.

“Achieving this ‘gold standard’ of laboratory accreditation is a team effort reflecting the dedication and hard work of all lab staff,” Deby King, administrative director of laboratory at Olympic Medical Center, said.

During the CAP accreditation process — designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients — inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record and overall management.
