Milestone: Physcians fund helps area students, fire district

The Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit Fund recently announces the group’s awards for both academic scholarships in medically related fields for the 2019-2020 school year and medically related community grants to be awarded in 2020.

The 2019-2020 academic scholarships awards go to: Alexander Barry, $4,000; Abigail Berry, $5,000; Amanda Campbell, $1,500; Bradley Elmer, $1,500; Kimberly Frazer, $1,500; Michael Lee, $3,000; Kelanie Leonard, $1,500; Hannah Little, $6,000; Maria Melvin, $4,000; Bailey Powers, $5,000; Vern Rondeau, $4,000, and Kiah Sullivan, $5,000.

In addition, a 2020 grant award to Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue totaled $1,907.17. Grant funds will be used to purchase a specialized wheeled rescue litter and stokes basket for use when performing off road, trail and backcountry rescue work.

The awards total $42,000.

The benefit fund was formed in 1995 when Regence BlueShield joined with Clallam County Physicians Service, Inc., a company formed by local physicians to provide health care coverage to Clallam County citizens.
