Milestone: Rotarians donate funds to support WAG dogs

Local Rotarians are giving a boost to their pals with paws.

The Sequim Sunrise Rotary representatives presented the Sequim-based Welfare for Animals Guild with a donation of $1,305 last week.

“Rotary (members are) so supportive of WAG; they’re amazing,” WAG president Barb Brabant said.

WAG representatives said the fund will be used for a number of costs incurred by the organization, particularly spaying and neutering and veterinary care

Each month a Rotary member selects an organization in the community for members to contribute; Rotarian Rich Bemm chose WAG in January. Brabant was able to give a presentation about WAG to Rotarians via Zoom.

WAG recently received 10 dogs from a single litter of Anatolian Shepherd-mixed puppies. However, WAG volunteer coordinator Andrea Marsden said the organization tends to take in larger dogs.

Welfare for Animals Guild has rescued, treated, vaccinated and and placed dogs into new homes since 2001. Dogs are either in foster homes are looked after at the Half Way Home Ranch off Old Olympic Highway near Sequim until they are adopted full-time.

The organization has 41 “active” dog clients, WAG representatives said, though that number counts groups of puppies as one.
