Milestone: Sequim’s Pierson graduates from West Point

Grant Scott Pierson of Sequim graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelors of science’ degree from West Point Military Academy in West Point, New York, on May 22.

In addition, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant Infantry Officer in the United States Army.

Pierson, a Sequim High 2017 graduate, was given his first salute as a graduate by his sister, 2018 Sequim high grad Kiara Pierson, also a student at West Point (Class of 2022).

His commissioning ceremony, bar pinning and oath of office was conducted by Col. Mark Read.

Pierson majored in Chinese with a minor in human geography.

He will head to Fort Benning, Ga., for Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course (IBLOC) then move to his first assignment at Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii.

The U.S. Military Academy’s Class of 2021 graduated about to 1,000 cadets at its commencement ceremony in May. West Point’s 223rd graduating class includes cadets from all 50 states.
