Milestone: SHS senior Adolphsen earns state FFA honor

Sequim High School senior Jill Adolphsen was selected as the Washington state FFA Proficiency Winner in Goat Production.

Adolphsen, vice president of Sequim’s FFA Chapter, will receive a plaque for her accomplishment and be celebrated at the Washington State FFA Convention in May.

The Washington State FFA Association recognizes students in 48 different areas based on their work based learning, also known as Supervised Agricultural Experiences SAE). FFA members who demonstrate outstanding agricultural skills and competencies through record keeping, leadership, and scholastic achievement may be considered for this award.

SAEs allow students to learn by doing by either owning and operating an agricultural business working or serving internships at an agriculture-based business or conducting an agriculture-based scientific experiment and reporting results, according to Sequim FFA advisor Bill McFarlen.

Earning this distinction allows Adolphsen to compete in the National FFA Awards Selection process in July, when she can compete against winners from the other state FFA associations.

Adolphsen has been involved in the following other agriculture education and FFA activities: Breeding Beef, Market Beef, Breeding Goats, Market Goats and Veterinary Science.

She was previously chosen in 2022 as the State Proficiency Winner for her Diversified Livestock Production and earned a silver award at the National FFA Award selection last July.

She also has earned four of the five FFA degrees, which include: Discovery, Greenhand, Chapter and State degrees.

Adolphsen is planning to apply for her American degree next year.
