Monday Musicale names 2013 student scholarship trio

The Monday Musicale program has awarded scholarships to three students for 2013, based on scholarship applications and performance auditions.

The second-place award of a $2,500 scholarship went to Hillary Rose Smith of Sequim High School. She plays alto saxophone and plans to study English and music at Whitman College in Walla Walla. Her teacher is Vern Fosket. She performed David Bennett’s “Saxophone Royale” accompanied by Gary McRoberts.

Kathryn Lorentzen, also of Sequim High School, was awarded a third-place $1,500 scholarship.

She will study music education at Western Washington University in Bellingham. In her audition, she sang “Si Mes Vers Avaient des Ailes” by Reynaldo Hahn and was accompanied by her teacher, John Lorentzen.
