Music Live with Lunch, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s monthly concert and lunch series, kicks off next week after a quarter-of-a-century.

Mark McConnell and Gary Prosser strum and sing some golden oldies starting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the sanctuary followed by a hot meal.

Their nod to the end of summer features tunes from James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Kenny Loggins and more.

McConnell has toured with his band Handpicked or as a solo artist in all 50 states and in 17 countries abroad. He also worked for Disney and spent 12 years in Japan sharing music at Hilton and Sheraton hotels.

Serendipity brought McConnell home to the Northwest, he said, where in addition to his other pursuits, he teaches guitar lessons and is looking for more students from beginner to advanced.

Prosser grew up in a family where both his parents flew in World War II, his mother was in the Women in the Air Force, WAF, and his father was a flight instructor, so naturally he became an Army pilot and later flew for United Airlines for 28 years.

He moved to Diamond Point and now plays in the Discovery Bay Pirates and the Final Approach.

Lou and Bill Yandell founded Music Live with Lunch 25 years ago as a community outreach in St. Luke’s. Concerts begin at noon the third Tuesday each month in the sanctuary followed by a hot lunch and camaraderie in the parish hall.

Tickets are $10 with proceeds supporting local, regional and global concerns.

Individual tickets and season tickets, eight concerts for $70, and can be purchased at the church office from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday.
