NOLS to celebrate Pride Month with activities

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites the community to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in June.

Pride Month occurs each year in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Manhattan. and is dedicated to uplifting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual voices (LGBTQIA), a celebration and commemoration of LGBTQIA+ culture and history.

NOLS offers Rainbow Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., in the field behind the library.

Rainbow Storytime sessions are also set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, at the Port Angeles Library, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Clallam Bay Library, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Forks Library.

Children of all ages are invited to this family storytime outdoors. Rainbow Storytime includes affirming stories and songs to celebrate inclusion, diversity, and all types of families. Programs take place outside, rain or shine; bring a blanket to sit on and a way to keep dry if it’s rainy.

NOLS also offers “Celebrate Pride with Zines” from June 6-11 at all library branches. A program for all ages, drop in during open hours to create a zine — DIY self-published works with a history in punk and counter culture movements to share art, writing, ideas and news — using a single-sheet of paper, art supplies, recycled materials and one’s imagination to explore the theme “Love is Love.”

Beginning Saturday, June 18 while supplies last, community members can pick up a “Take and Make — Rainbow Suncatcher” at library branches across the Olympic Peninsula. Create a rainbow suncatcher to hang in a window.

All supplies and instructions are included for this craft activity (adult supervision may be required).

This program is supported by the Friends of the Library. For more information about library programs and services, visit nols.org, email to discover@nols.org or follow North Olympic Library System on Facebook and Instagram.
