Calling all writers! The Olympic Peninsula Authors (OPA) announced last week a call for submission of original prose and poetry.

For the fifth consecutive year, OPA will publish a compilation of original works by authors writing about Clallam or Jefferson County. This year, the anthology is envisioned as a two-part publication, with the working titles of “Tall Tales of the Olympic Peninsula” and “True Tales of the Olympic Peninsula.”

Tall tales include stories exaggerated, possibly even with unbelievable elements, myths and legends, group representatives said, while true tales include memoirs, tribal histories, family stories and more.

Each tall tale or true tale should be set on the Olympic Peninsula, they said, as “identifying specific locations adds an element of realism.

“Like all good stories, there should be character conflict and resolution.”

Publication is planned for Spring 2022. The finished product will be available in paperback and ebook.

Submission details

Deadline for submissions is Dec. 31.

Submissions, not exceeding 5,000 words, should be in Word or Pages format files, sent as an attachment to olypenauthors@olypen.com.

Final selections will be made by anthology editors.

A $25 fee will be collected for one’s selected work; this covers a small service fee as well as one print copy of the publication, OPA members said.

Proceeds from the sale of the publication support the work of the OPA.

Olympic Peninsula Authors was co-founded in 2016 by Heidi Hansen and Linda B. Myers. In addition to the annual anthology, the group holds a monthly Zoom open-mic event for authors and hosts live readings when health guidelines conditions allow.
