Although Steve Anderson just recently relocated to the Olympic Peninsula, that’s not to say he hasn’t been busy sharing his musical talents at various venues throughout the area.
The Sequim First Friday Art Walk for November will bring Anderson and his smooth vocals and acoustic guitar sounds to Olympic Theatre Arts, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Anderson tells a story of picking up a guitar at age 17, when a “pretty girl” offered to show him how to play. “How could I say no,” he said.
Not long after that encounter, he was accompanying his younger siblings and making music overseas.
“I was known as the American kid with a guitar who could play rock and roll cover songs,” he said of his early years as a musician.
Thirty years later Anderson has fine-tuned his musical talents and enjoys sharing those talents with friends and others at weddings, coffee houses, music circles and private parties. Originally from Texas, he played for several years in San Diego’s Bluegrass Band scene and with other bands, both as lead vocalist, guitarist and mandolin player. His early influences included the rock bands of the 1970s — Lynyrd Skynyrd, Atlanta Rhythm Section and Bad Company. Today he enjoys everything from Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Eric Clapton and Elton John.
Comfortable with a host of musical genres, from blues, country, folk and rock, he is in demand by local performing artists on the peninsula.
“It was always about the love of music,” he said. “I love nothing more than playing a song that causes folks to pause, listen and smile.” And, he added, “It’s even better when they join in and sing along with me.”
Anderson takes the stage at 5:30 p.m., Nov. 4, at Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim. All are welcome to enjoy Anderson’s rendering of familiar standards and perhaps a few new tunes.
Admission is free, concessions and beverage bar will be open.
