Olympic Theatre Arts seeking artists, art for 2020-2021 season promos

Some upcoming Olympic Theatre Arts productions are on hold, but OTA is already looking ahead to the upcoming season — and artistic ways to promote it.

Olympic Theatre Arts is once again calling for samples from local artists as the community theater nonprofit considers promotional material for the 2020-20201 season that launches this summer.

Up to seven artists would be used for the promotional artwork, OTA officials said last week.

Interested artists are asked to send samples of their work or a link to their website to marketing@olympic theatrearts.org with subject line “ARTIST.”

After a review of candidates, OTA officials will match artistic styles with productions selected by the Play Selection Committee and approved by the OTA board.

Selected artists are then briefed about the play they’ve been assigned and told why OTA feels their art is a good fit for the particular play.

If the artist wants to take on the project, OTA will release a copy of the script — electronically or in a sanitized bag left outside the theatre for pick up — along with a contract explaining terms and conditions of the agreement. Briefly, OTA officials said, those include $100 to the artist upon delivery of artwork and executed agreement; artwork is photographed and used to promote the play, with the original piece placed on display in the OTA Gathering Hall through the run of the production; raffle tickets are sold for a chance to win the original, and a drawing is held after the final performance (the artist receives all proceeds collected during the raffle minus the $100 retainer).

Artists who have previously been featured for one of OTA’s shows and wanting to be considered again are asked to contact OTA via email (same address) and update OTA with any relevant new work.

OTA actors and actresses of all ages are busy creating videos online, offering renditions of William Shakespeare’s prose; find their video showcase at vimeo.com/showcase /6937372 or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/olympictheatrearts.
