Osbornes to celebrate 50th

Rick and Cathie Osborne celebrate their 50th anniversary on July 7. Rick graduated from Langley High School on Whidbey Island and attended Western Baptist Bible College in El Cerrito, Calif. He and Cathie Laursen met at Bible camp just before he went to college, and they dated and corresponded five years while she finished high school in Tacoma and then attended Seattle Pacific.

After they married in Tacoma on July 7, 1967, Rick finished his teaching credentials at Pacific Lutheran University, taught and coached at Tacoma Baptist Schools, and then was principal of a private school in Grand Mound.

They moved to Sequim in 1973 when Rick became principal of Faith Baptist Christian School, and then later Sequim Bible Christian School. He spent 25 years working for Accelerated Christian Education, helping churches start schools using individualized curriculum, and was one of the first teachers in the alternative school in the Sequim district. He now works as custodian at the Sequim Middle School.

They have four children: Rick in Paso Robles, Calif.; Joan Douglass in Puyallup; Ted in Sequim, and Heather, who is now in heaven, plus seven grandchildren. Cathie has been a housewife, but enjoys working for Weight Watchers and being active in the Strait Stamp Society.
