OTA presents pair of plays by Redshaw

Olympic Theatre Arts presents two Rebecca Redshaw one-act plays

Olympic Theatre Arts presents two Rebecca Redshaw one-act plays, "Dear Jennifer" and "Spider on the Sill," for three weekends starting Friday, April 16.

"Spider on the Sill" takes a sometimes humorous, sometimes touching look at a family’s decision regarding "Pop." It deals with the family dynamic of an aging parent who has had bypass surgery and is not recovering well. His adult children deal with the dilemma of their busy lives and their father’s condition.

"This is a serious subject," said director Susan Shaffer, "one that many of us deal with at some point in our lives, yet ‘Spider on the Sill’ handles it with just the right balance of humor and respect. I love this story. It’s simply charming."

Set in 1984, "Dear Jennifer" is told through letters from family, friends and lovers. The production marks Rebecca Redshaw’s directorial debut.

"I suppose I’ve been waiting for the right moment to don the director’s cap after all my years behind the scenes as the playwright," she said.

"Olympic Theatre Arts’ wonderful new main stage is the ideal venue for the intimate staging of ‘Dear Jennifer.’"

The plays start at 7:30 p.m. April 16-17, 23-24, 29-30 and May 1; at 2 p.m.. Sunday, April 18, 25 and May 2. Tickets cost $15 or $13 for OTA members at the OTA box office, 414 N.
