Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Chapter JC has scheduled its 16th annual Holiday Bazaar for Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.
All proceeds from the bazaar will go to P.E.O. International’s scholarships, grants, and loans for women of all levels of education throughout the United States and Canada.
“Our holiday bazaar gives community members an opportunity to shop early, find unique gifts, support a great cause, and learn more about P.E.O.,” Heather Minter, president of Chapter JC in Sequim, said in a release. “So, come early and take care of everyone on your gift list.”
Cash, as well as credit cards and checks (with current ID) will be accepted.
Chapter JC began holding its Holiday Bazaar in 2008. The event has become an annual gift-shopping destination. Items for sale include home-baked goods; handmade jewelry and crafts; hand-stitched gifts; canned goods; and an assortment of gently-used novels, children’s books, puzzles and games.
A wine and chocolate gift basket will be raffled this year. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1 each and the drawing will take place at 1:50 p.m. The winner does not need to be present to win.
Chapter JC holds the Holiday Bazaar as its major fundraising activity each November to ensure funding of grants, scholarships and loans for women’s education — from undergraduate levels through Ph.D.
All proceeds from the sales will be sent to P.E.O. International to be used for that purpose.
Many Olympic Peninsula women have been recipients of these grants and scholarships.
In addition to shopping, the Holiday Bazaar is an opportunity for members of Chapter JC to talk to prospective members about P.E.O. Information about the philanthropic organization and how to join will be available.
P.E.O. was founded as a sorority more than 150 years ago at Iowa Wesleyan College.
What started with a bond of friendship among seven women in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is now one of the oldest women’s organizations in North America, with nearly 5,600 chapters.
From the original seven women in 1869, P.E.O. has grown into an organization of more than 230,000 members in the United States and Canada.
