Margie McDonald has been a longtime supporter of the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center both as an exhibit judge and artist.

McDonald’s work will be on display at the PAFAC July 23-Aug. 28.

The center hosts an artists’ presentation at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, followed by a reception from 4:30-5 p.m.

McDonald was the 3-D juror in the annual 2014 Art Convergence exhibition and as an artist multiple times in the annual Art Outside Juried Sculpture exhibit including the current 2015-2016 offerings.

She was raised in rural Newfoundland and received art degrees from Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Originally she worked in textiles and fiber arts tending toward sculptural forms using traditional techniques.

More recently, McDonald has been using recycling industrial materials in spontaneous mixed medium assemblage.

”Recycling is the basis of my current work because of my desire to reuse the huge variety of interesting objects that no longer have a useful life for their intended purpose,” she says. “Every material has a unique nature that can be drawn out and given a new life without destroying the material’s inherent qualities. I want to engage the unconventional art viewer through my materials and methods.”

The exhibition opening at PAFAC is composed of several sculptures made from a range of recycled materials plus installation pieces specially created for this show.

McDonald resides and has her studio in Port Townsend.

An exhibit — “Between Worlds” by artist Clark Mundy — scheduled for this time period was postponed until next year.

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center is at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Gallery hours through October are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. Woodland Art Park is open daylight hours year-round. Admission is free.
