Peninsula libraries offer free Young Adult Art Workshops

Young adults in grades 6-12 are invited to get creative this summer at all of the branches of the North Olympic Library System.

The free Young Adult Art Workshops are led by Melissa Klein, who holds a BFA degree and a master’s degree in teaching.

The Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., offers three sessions, at 2 p.m. Fridays, July 19, July 26 and Aug. 2.

The first workshop focuses on the history of art and allows students to explore different artistic styles and mediums.

In the second, participants create a work of original “cover art” for a favorite book or piece of literature.

In the third workshop, participants have mentored work time to complete their projects, which they may display at the library.

The Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., offers the series at 2 p.m. on Thursdays, July 18, July 25, and Aug. 1.

No preregistration is needed for the free workshops. Participants are encouraged but not required to attend each workshop in the series.

The art workshop series complements the summer reading program, “Beneath the Surface,” running through Aug. 3 at all branches.
