Writers on the Spit hosts the Fourth Friday Reading Series at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Rainshadow Coffee Bar, 157 W. Cedar St., Sequim. Peninsula poet Howard Chadwick reads from his book, “Time Out.”
Chadwick’s reading is followed by five-minute open mic readings from 7:00-8:00 pm. Writers are encouraged to bring original prose and poetry. Names are collected between 6:00-6:30 p.m. and are drawn for the five-minute readings.
Raised on the east coast, Howard studied forestry at the University of Idaho. Summer jobs included fire lookout in the Salmon National Forest and being a smoke jumper out of McCall, Idaho. He has worked as an explosive ordinance disposal officer in the Army and as a range analyst and researcher for the U.S. Forest Service.
In 1990, Howard moved to Clallam County. His artistic work also includes a mural painted 15 years ago at 2nd and Peabody Streets in Port Angeles. Chadwick currently lives in Dungeness.
