Poets to read from new ‘Empty Bowl Recipes’

A host of local poets will read from the newly-released publication, “The Empty Bowl Cookbook,” in mid February.

Nine authors featured in the new Madrona Series volume will read their selections at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, at the KSQM 91.5 FM community room at 1069 W. Washington St., at an open mic event hosted by the Olympic Peninsula Authors (OPA) group.

The event is free for listeners joining the audience live or on zoom.

Peninsula poets reading at this OPA event include leading authors as well as newer names: Kate Reavey, Alice Derry, Charlotte G. Warren, Eva McGinnis, Katherine Kennedy, Tom Harris, Laura Garrard, Bill Ransom and Carol Anne Modena.

The new book features “a banquet of writers and artists who celebrate the ways our species sustains itself,” according to publishers of “The Empty Bowl Cookbook.”

They note, “Poems and prose celebrate human culinary successes and failures, ancestral foods, and share some darn good recipes.”

The nine readers from “The Empty Bowl Cookbook” lead off the evening, followed by other open mic readers who sign up to read 5-minute selections.

”The Empty Bowl Cookbook” will be sold at the event and authors will be available to autograph copies.
