Fairview Lake Studios in Sequim, a pottery studio owned by Brian and Wendy Fuller, recently hosted a bowl throwing event for members and students of the shop that will ultimately benefit the Clallam County Food Bank.
In pottery, throwing involves placing a lump of clay on a potter’s wheel, then squeezing, lifting and shaping the clay as the wheel turns.
Brian Fuller is working with the Clallam County Food Bank to provide handmade bowls for the nonprofit’s “Empty Bowls” fall fundraiser. “Empty Bowls” is a nationwide annual project.
The studio provided the clay. Fuller and eight potters threw 96 bowls.
A second bowl throwing will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Fuller’s staff will trim, bisque and then glaze the bowls and people will be able to purchase the artworks at the “Empty Bowls” sale. All proceeds will go to the Clallam County Food Bank.
