Resounding voices, tunes at Monday Musicale concert

The Lortenzen family entertained an appreciative crowd at the Monday Musicale 50th anniversary Scholarship Benefit Concert on Nov 5 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles.

John Lorentzen, choral/vocal music director at Sequim High School and Sequim Middle School since 2011, was joined by his wife Laura Lorentzen, music teacher at Helen Haller Elementary School, and son Mark Lorentzen, who with his wife run Ghostlight Productions, a new nonprofit musical theater company on the Olympic Peninsula.

The Lorentzens were one of four acts at the scholarship concert that included pianist Lorraine Martin, music director at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sequim; trio Anne and David Krabill (oboe, bassoon) and Lisa Lanza (piano); and Vocal Unlimited, the Port Angeles High School choir, under the direction of Jolene Gailey.

Monday Musicale was organized in 1968 with the dual purpose of awarding scholarships to local college-level students studying in the field of music and helping to promote music in the community through monthly programs.

Meetings are at noon on the third Monday of each month at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles.
