Science Café to explore advancements in robotic surgeries

Dirk Gouge discusses surgical knee reconstruction advancements at the next Science Café, set for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Paradise Restaurant, 703 N. Sequim Ave.

Gouge, of Olympic Medical Physicians’ orthopedic surgery department, presents “Robotic Joint Replacement”. Dirk has had an active practice in Port Angeles since 1998.

Gouge, who has had an active practice in Port Angeles since 1998, will be discussing advancements in total knee arthroplasty — including current practice to include patient specific instrumentation, computer navigation and robotic assisted surgery.

His presentation will include relevant anatomy, the process of arthritis, the evolution of knee replacement up to today’s robotic surgery techniques.

Seating is limited, so attendees are asked to arrive early, particularly if they intend to have dinner prior to the presentation.

Hosted by the Sequim Education Foundation, Science Café is a monthly event provided by the Sequim Education Foundation, September through May. All financial contributions received at the events are applied to the group’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) teaching grants.
