Second Stage show just in time

Prior to its season opening in September, the Port Angeles Community Players offers the Second Stage Production “Time Remembered” for one weekend, Aug. 24-26.

The romantic comedy by Jean Anouilh entwines melancholy Prince Albert Troubiscoi, played by Sean Peck-Collier, with his wildly eccentric family and Amanda the milliner (Corey Labrie) who comes into their lives to change them forever.

First-time Port Angeles director John Manno directed “Time Remembered” 10 years ago in Michigan. He said with a Second Stage production, the actors can do more challenging shows that are more unusual and unique.

Throughout the play, which premiered on Broadway in 1957, Anouilh makes observations on memories, romance and what it means to truly live.

“Anouilh is considered one of the major playwrights of the 20th century who tends to be more cerebral, more French, meaning he’s a Neoclassical playwright,” Manno said.

“He injects it with all sorts of commentary, philosophical musings. Things you wouldn’t necessarily see in a play.”

The play also features many local actors like Manno, who plays the Duke; Ron Graham as Lord Hector, the Duke’s long-suffering brother; and Jonas Brown in multiple roles. Stephanie Gooch is assistant director, stage manager and understudy.

Manno said this production gives viewers the chance to see something they normally wouldn’t see in a major metropolitan production.

“You’d have to go to New York and see an off- and off-off-Broadway show to see something like this,” he said.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26.

Tickets are $10 at the door, Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. For more information, call 452-6651 or visit www.pacommunityplayers.com.
