Some Sequim teens are hoping you’ll show some love for the Sequim High Class of 2016 starting this weekend.

“What Is Love,” a benefit show for Sequim High seniors, explores love, love of friends and family, and what can happen when love doesn’t work out, says director Robin Hall.

Shows begin at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 28-29, and Friday, Feb. 5, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6.

Megan O’Mera, senior class president, said ticket sales all help with the annual senior ball on June 4 and graduation on June 10.

“This show is extremely important because it can make or break our senior ball,” she said.

The senior ball includes a surprise dinner and dance at an undisclosed location while the safe and sober party is run by seniors’ parents, O’Mera said.

The graduating class has been fundraising all four years of high school for the events with events like school dances and dog washes, which O’Mera said she’s especially proud of.

Hall said this year’s senior class play features the most seniors ever with 25 participants.

For “What Is Love,” actors were recruited throughout the school including some underclassmen.

O’Mera acted in the senior class play as a sophomore and finds the show to be a lot of fun.

“It’s a lot more casual,” O’Mera said compared to the school’s other plays.

“What Is Love” features several familiar and lesser-known scenes and music from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Spamalot,” “Into the Woods,” “Hairspray” and more.

Senior Niki McElhose has acted all four years and finds the senior class play gives seniors a chance to shine.

“(Some seniors) may have wanted to act before but never did before so this is their last chance,” she said.

McElhose is featured throughout the show including a role as a teacher in “Flirting Academy,” as the title role in “The Third Wheel,” and she really enjoys their version of “We Go Together” from “Grease.”

She’ll finish her high school acting career this spring as Gabriel, a stepsister, in the school’s operetta “Cinderella.”

Other cast members from the senior class for “What Is Love” include Alysha Graham, Ashlyn Reeves, Betsy Merrikin, Eric Hermosada, Hayden James, Heidi Powell, Hunter Cauffman, Jackson Oliver, Jared Kneidl, Jessica Craig, Juan Cadenas, Katie Rogers, Kayley Lofstrom, Logan Habner, Mariah Franco, Miranda Cays, Morgan King, Mykaela Hatton, Nick Fazio, Quintan Johnson, Ryan Macedo, Waverly Shreffler and Zachary William Hebert.

Underclassmen include Abygail Mundy, Ali Cobb, Annabelle Armstrong, Brittany Rives, Colleen Carpenter, Damon Little, Gabi Simonson, Jack Dismore, Sara Zarit, Seth Mitchell, Spencer Neale, Thomas Hughes, Tommy Hall and Victoria Hall.

Donations for the 2016 senior class’ special events are also accepted at the show.
