Sequim High School’s operetta received more accolades from The 5th Avenue Awards on June 6 for another grand operetta.

The school’s production of “Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” received four nominations — Outstanding Choreography (by Abby Norman, a sophomore) and honorable mentions for Outstanding Lobby Display, Outstanding Costume Design (by Becky Mitchell) and Outstanding Performance by a Leading Actor — Nicholas Fazio as Prince Topher.

The awards were presented at McCaw Hall in Seattle commemorating the 14th year of awards honoring high school musical theater. This year, 95 schools’ productions competed for 21 awards.

Since the awards began, Sequim has been nominated dozens of times and received a few wins.

The operettas have won three awards including Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role by Blake Barnes as Gideon and for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble by the brothers both in “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” in 2007. Its “Wizard of Oz” won Outstanding Costume Design in 2008, too.

This spring’s “Cinderella” was the 50th operetta, which saw direction by Robin Robinson Hall.
