Sequim Open Aire Market
What’s new at the market is sweet greens. If you haven’t been adding kale to your soups and stir-fries, now is the time. After a frost, the kale gets sweeter and tastier. This hardy green is low in saturated fat and very low in cholesterol. It is also a great source of protein, vitamin E, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, iron and magnesium, and a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B6, calcium, potassium, copper and manganese.
We can eat this green locally, year-round. This means that you really are getting all the benefits because it is picked fresh and on your table before it loses much of its vitality.
Always bringing something new are Joe Marlow and Connie Durant of Marlow Metalworks. This business is based on recycling materials that otherwise would be buried in a landfill. Joe turned my failed pressure tank into brightly colored fish to adorn a home or garden. He takes old farm equipment, barn boards and pieces of scrap metal and crafts them into unique, elegant functional furniture. He does custom orders, so if you are trying to find a table, night stand or bench to fit just right, Joe will come up with a piece that will tell a story and have love built into it.
Come down for a cup of Rainshadow coffee on Saturday mornings and fill your bags with local produce and perhaps a new wool hat to keep your ears warm.
