9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays between Sequim and Second avenues; 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays at the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street.

Thanks to this fantastic community, the Sequim Open Aire Market thrives. If you followed the newspapers during the winter, there were some rocky moments and financial woes the market underwent.

The midweek market is running strong. It is a vibrant corner, lots of strawberries, chocolate, baked goods, superb local beef, fresh spinach, garlic scapes, beets, turnips and carrots, oh my ….

Friends of the Fields is selling amazingly delicious strawberry shortcake this Saturday. Come early and get yours! This is a fun way to make your annual contribution to a very important organization that helps keep farmland as farmland for the future.

This week don’t miss live music by Denny Secord and the Northwest Boys. They are a lively, fun group playing from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Where else can you enjoy free music on a Saturday afternoon in the summer? Come down, grab a slice of gourmet wood-fired pizza from one of our new extraordinary food vendors and take a listen.

What else is new at the market?

Strawberries and greens – two great tastes that go great together. I like to chop some arugula, spinach or chard along with some chopped strawberries and throw them in a hot skillet with chopped garlic scapes and eggs. This makes an amazing scramble, add a little salmon plus a little feta on top for extra yum! Serve it up with some sourdough bread from Bell Street Bakery and you have a gorgeous Sunday breakfast. Don’t forget the coffee from Don at Rainshadow Roasting Company, locally roasted in Sequim. Enjoy the bounty of early summer.
