Sequim Police Training exhibit opens

An exhibit, created by Sequim Police officers and featuring the training programs of the Sequim Police Department, is on display at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., now through May 29. An opening reception was May 3. The exhibit includes information on: the Basic Law Enforcement Academy, the Field Training Officer Program, canine training, crisis intervention team training, firearms training, defensive tactics training, emergency vehicle operations course, narcotic training, digital forensics training, fingerprint identification training and National Police Week.

The exhibit is on display in conjunction with National Police Week. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officer’s Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week.

There have been 27 Line of Duty Deaths in the U.S. this year as of March 19. The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office will host a bell ringing ceremony in Liberty Park (next to the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles) at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
