Sequim Prairie Garden club wins big awards at county fair

Sequim Prairie Garden Club was a big contributor to the Floral Barn at this year’s Clallam County Fair, which won the coveted Commissioner’s Award from the Washington State Fair Commission for Best Barn. The club was assigned the task of decorating the Floral Barn in line with the fair’s theme “Country Nights and Carnival Lights.”

With Club member Della La Cour at the helm, club members strung sparkling lights, country and rural-themed posters, vintage farm implements, rodeo paraphernalia and more to create an exciting backdrop for the hundreds of beautiful flowers and plants vying for blue ribbons and grand prizes.

Many club members contributed from their own gardens for the show, too.

Vina Winters, club past president, took home the Best in Show ribbon for her succulent wreath, along with 10 blue ribbons, 10 red ribbons, and an Honorable Mention award.

Other members were awarded their share of blue, red, and white ribbons, as well as some of the Best in Division and Honorable Mention prizes.
