Greywolf Elementary School

Students at Greywolf Elementary in Sheri Burke’s, Shannon Green’s, Caryn Little’s and Taleah Burr’s classes again had the opportunity to work in the Greywolf Hospital in their classrooms. After taking the hospital oath and receiving their badges, the doctors took part in many hospital activities such as Code Blue, where they had to determine how much time it would take to administer medical treatment from the time a patient came in until they checked out of the hospital.

Hospital staff analyzed skeleton remains to determine the causes of injuries, using their medical books. They operated on patients using their fine motor skills, and deconstructed (took apart) words, then reconstructed them using the correct prefix or suffix and stitched words back together. Hospital staff used the hospital medical library to look up various ailments of text feature-deprived patients. Some patients were deficient in understanding text forms and features, such as bold words in print, what a glossary is used for, among other ailments. After determining their ailment, they prescribed medications for the patient. The Human Body Unit lends itself to so many ways for children to learn through the curriculum while gaining experience and understanding.
