In Heather Riley’s class, students earn Fun Day Friday through positive behavior in the classroom and task completion. Students voted for a craft day. The theme for craft day was sensory fun. Students created their own calming jars with glitter, and stress balls stuffed with homemade play-dough. They also created their own scratch paper art. They used oil pastel crayons to create a design on paper plates, then painted over it with black matte acrylic paint. Once it dried, they etched a drawing.

After learning about Norse mythology, third-graders in Emily Ellefson’s class were challenged to make the Rainbow Bridge. They were each given Play-Doh, five pipe cleaners, a mini-cup and gold counters.

Teacher-Librarian Sheri Kruckeberg’s awesome Battle of the Books fourth-graders were busy recently, getting ready to read the final book for the club, “The Cardboard Kingdom” by Chad Sell. “We had a great discussion on ‘Dragons in a Bag’,” dshe said. “We used Nearpod to give the book star ratings, write book reviews, and play a Kahoot-style game on trivia from the book. Lots of fun and enthusiastic discussion!”

Kristin Mooney’s second-grade class had fun with pop rocks and learning how to use descriptive words to write about them. Students first had to describe a bag and guess what was in it. The next day they were given pop rocks and they had to use descriptive words to tell how they felt, looked, sounded, tasted and smelled. They took both writings and put them together into a paragraph.
