The Shipley Center’s 5th Annual Gala and Auction, presented by Sequim Health and Rehabilitation with the theme “Off to the Races,” will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Sunland Golf & Country Club. Anyone who wears derby attire will get a free photo.

Tickets are $75 and are available at the center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim. Purchasing a ticket includes a welcome reception with mint juleps to start the evening, featuring hors d’oeuvres such as stuffed dates, pastrami-wrapped asparagus and non-alcoholic drinks.

The dinner menu includes Beef Bourguignon in a puff pastry bowl plus fried chicken cutlet with country gravy, polenta with sun dried tomatoes, grilled vegetables, grilled Caesar salad and roll. A dark chocolate mousse with Chantilly cream topped with a leaf of chocolate mint in a chocolate tulip cup provides a perfect sweet ending.

TV and radio personality John Curley, sponsored by The Fifth Avenue, will be the auctioneer. Curley brings an energy and humor to the evening, making more than just your average auction event, Shipley officials said. Curley has successfully raised funds for numerous nonprofits in the Puget Sound area.

This year’s live auction features amazing trips, such as a one-week stay in a two-bedroom condo in December near Disney World’s Epcot, a three-night stay in a large beach house north of Ocean Shores, a private dinner in the winner’s home for up to eight people, a two-night stay at Harrison Hot Springs in British Columbia with breakfast for two each morning, a one-week stay in a two-bedroom condo in one of hundreds of resorts that the winner can choose from and so much more!

All proceeds go to the Shipley Center and are tax deductible. Last year the Shipley Center raised over $30,000 which goes toward either the capital campaign for its new building or to help fund membership packages to lower-income seniors.
