Out Loud Story Slam is back at Olympic Theatre Arts on Friday, June 30, with the theme “Try This.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. in the gathering hall at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave. Tickets are $15 online at olympictheatrearts.org, or $17 at the door if available; cash and card are accepted.
The event will be hosted by Nessa Goldman, who was recently featured on the Story Collider and Risk! podcasts. She’ll be looking for 10 storytellers from the audience to share a 5-minute true, personal story on the theme.
Participants are asked to think about a time they took a gamble, or perhaps always wanted to try something and never thought they would until they gave it a shot.
”If any of these prompts strike a chord, you might just have a story worth sharing,” event organizers said.
“I love coming and hearing a variety of stories from some really great tellers,” one Story Slam audience member noted.
“The hidden gems are found when you take away a different perspective, an eye-opening revelation, or even a lesson that can be used in our life.”
Storytellers are judged by the audience, but the event is all in the spirit of sharing, organizers say; the idea is that tellers prepare their best stories, and the winners will go on to participate in a future Grand Slam.
Audience members can also participate anonymously, or just enjoy the tales of the evening.
Ten tellers will be selected in total.
Those interested in telling or would like a little more guidance are encouraged to contact Out Loud Story Slam at outloudstoryslam@gmail.com.
