Student essay contest offers cash award

Clallam County-area students in grades 5-8 are invited to enter an essay contest sponsored by the Michael Trebert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and by DAR nationwide.

Students in public, private and home schools are welcome to enter.

Because 2020 is the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower landing, an essay topic related to the Mayflower has been selected. Completed essays must be received by Friday, Dec. 13.

One winner will be selected at each grade level to receive a $50 award, certificate and a medal. In addition, their essays will be forwarded for judging at the state level. A local awards celebration will be held for grade level winners on Feb. 29.

Specific National Society Daughters of the American Revolution contest rules must be adhered to.
