Sequim High School senior Payton Sturm was one of three local students selected to receive Monday Musical scholarships worth $1,5000 each.

Sturm, a mezzo soprano, sang “Ici-Bas” by Gabriel Faure and was accompanied by her teacher, John Lorentzen. She plans to attend Baylor University and study human resource management and musical theater.

Others earning scholarships were Ethan Cameron and Emma Weller, both of Port Angeles High School.

The trio applied by video for the scholarships.

Three outside judges reviewed their videos and applications; Mark Johnson, Vicki Helwick, and Paul Creech.

Monday Musicale has awarded scholarships since 1968 to Clallam County students who are studying in the field of music.

Club dues are $15 and the organization looks to be hosting regular, in-person meeting by September.
