Roxann Harr, right, president of Soroptimist International of Sequim, presents a check for $1,000 to Cathy Bourm, the Sequim School District’s educational support specialist, to support students who fall under the McKinney-Vento Act. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures homeless children and youth have immediate and stable access to education. According to the Act, homeless children and youth are defined as those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. The funds will be used in various ways to support the stability of these children and youth while they attend school.
